The Pilgrim Society & Pilgrim Hall Museum will present its first annual Governor William Bradford Award to Senate President Therese Murray during the Society’s Forefathers Day Dinner on December 20, 2014. In establishing the award earlier this year, the Society’s Board of Trustees voted the following:
“Governor William Bradford wrote, All great and honourable actions are accompanied with great difficulties, and must be both enterprised and overcome with answerable courages. The Governor William Bradford Award will be given annually by the Pilgrim Society to honor an individual whose accomplishments echo the spirit of enterprise, courage, and dedication to community embodied by Bradford and the Pilgrim settlers. As was true of the original Pilgrim settlers, recipients of the award may come from many walks of life and fields of endeavor, but all share great accomplishments through enterprise and courage.”
The Executive Committee of the Society voted unanimously to present the award to Senate President Murray in recognition of her long standing support of Pilgrim Hall Museum and the community of Plymouth.
Society President Sue Giovanetti commented, “Senator Murray is a remarkably dedicated public servant who has represented her community above self. She is committed to making a difference in the lives of her constituents. Like Governor Bradford and the Pilgrims he led, Senator Murray has put the good of her community first, standing firm in her convictions, representing and listening to her fellow citizens, in an effort to improve and enhance the economic conditions of Plymouth and the Commonwealth.”
The award will be presented on December 20, 2014 during the Society’s Forefathers Day Dinner which takes place at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor at 6:30 p.m. The Forefathers Day Dinner, marking the anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims, is an annual tradition of the Pilgrim Society dating from 1820. In addition to the presentation of the Governor William Bradford Award, there will be remarks from internationally recognized documentary filmmaker Ric Burns regarding his current project The Pilgrims: A Documentary Film.
Advance reservations are required for the Forefathers Day Dinner. Tickets may be obtained online at pilgrimhallmuseum.pinnaclecart.com or by contacting the museum at 508-746-1620.
